Erectile dysfunction – what is that?

Many men are forced to live with sexual performance disorders. The fear of only being half a man is widespread.
Most impotent men do not dare to talk openly about their problems perhaps because generally erectile dysfunction it is still considered a topic not to talk about. It is taboo. But it can be assumed that many people are affected by impotence. According to studies, approximately fifty percent of all men over 40 occasionally suffer from erectile dysfunction and the number increases with age.

Impotence does not have exclusively physical causes - on the contrary: frequently it is above all emotional in origin. Therefore, in current diagnosis and therapies, both aspects are considered. They are no longer differentiated.

Approximately 20-30 per cent of all men suffer from impotence because of mental shortcomings, whereas 70– 80 per cent may be put down to physical causes. Mental factors reinforce physical defects so much so that often impotence is enhanced. A successful sexual performance becomes almost impossible.

Most men affected by impotence are not able to handle the issue correctly. They think they have a weaker male identity. They constantly think about failing during the next moment of sexual intercourse and that makes performance defects even worse. Getting out of such a vicious circle is not simple.

Impotence can be frequently traced back to huge levels of stress, inhibition, performance pressure or other fears. Sometimes it is even a sort of protest against being forced to be a ‘real’ man.

In conclusion, no matter what the cause may be behind impotence, it is an undisputed fact that a permanently unsatisfactory sexual performance is very hard for a man to accept. And the quality of life gets worse and worse.
